GEMS Center
The Amgen Center for Science Learning is also the Los Angeles County GEMS Center. GEMS (Great Exploration in Math and Science) centers are affiliated with the Lawrence Hall of Science and offer workshops and activity based learning materials to educators in their communities. GEMS publications present a wide range of supplementary science and math learning experiences for preschool through eighth grade. These activities motivate and engage students in standards based concepts through experimentation and direct experience. The effective, easily understood instructions in each GEMS unit and network supported workshops enable participating teachers to become facilitators of high quality math and science activities.
Annenberg Media
Many Annenberg/CPB Math and Science Project courses are available at the Kresa Educator Resource Hall. These courses come in a variety of lengths and include video, print and online components that can be used independently or as part of group workshops for teachers at all levels. They offer targeted professional development sessions that are concentrated on improving teaching skills and understanding of specific curricular areas and grade levels.
NASA Educator Resource Center
The Kresa Educator Resource Hall is host to the Los Angeles area’s NASA Educator Resource Center. The NASA ERC is a depository of educational materials including; teacher guides, video programs, educational briefs, CD-ROMs, lithographs, posters and other supplemental material. Most of the material includes hands-on learning activities and is targeted for audiences from Kindergarten through 12th grade.
Resources
Available
The materials cover multiple subjects reflecting the span of NASA’s research programs such as:
All of these resources are available to be duplicated free of charge. The resource hall has video equipment for the use of anyone who brings a blank tape to make a real-time copy of their selected program. Some print material can be distributed through the mail if the educator contacts the resource center with a description of the subject and audience level they are interested in material to cover. If you would like to view all the available resources or copy a program please make an appointment by contacting mjennings@cscmail.org. |
