Prescription Drugs: Good Medicine—Bad Behavior
On February 7, 2009, our Science Matters program takes a look at prescription drug abuse. Seven of the top ten illegal drugs used in the United States are prescription medications. What is the science of such addiction and treatment, and how should we respond? Does the best solution lie with more prescription drug legislation to further restrict the drug supply, or through more intense public education to decrease demand?
Science Center wins Parents Magazine award
Parents Magazine named the California Science Center as one of the top ten Science Centers in the nation for young children and their families. The ten were chosen after Parent’s conducted a survey of over 150 Science Centers in the US to discover who offered activities to appeal to the youngest scientists – children under the age of six.
Parents pick the Science Center
The California Science Center was chosen as Los Angeles’ 2008 Parent’s Pick for “Best Museum” in the “Big Kid” category as part of Nickelodeon’s ParentConnect’s First annual Parents’ Picks Awards. Nickelodeon's ParentsConnect , an online parenting community, asked readers to identify the top family-oriented places in their local communities.
IMAX Theater voted the best place for a movie
The California Science Center’s IMAX Theater was selected by Downtown News readers as “The Best Place for a Movie” in their “20th Annual Best of Downtown issue”. The theater received top reviews for exceptional sound, 3D capabilities, and for being the largest theater in Los Angeles at seven stories high.
Science Center event wins 2008 BizBash award
Our Event Services Department was awarded “Best Nonprofit Event Concept” at this year’s BizBash Events Style Awards.
